This was the wettest, muddiest outing ever. And then there was the cave ...

It rained and rained from Friday midnight to Saturday evening. We've been rained on before, but never this much. But we came here to get wet and muddy, after all. Luckily for us the cave we got access to in Meramec State Park is towards the top of a hill with no real flood danger -- the park staff had no qualms about letting us in. There are over forty caves in Meramec State Park. A few are available to groups for exploration. We got access to Mushroom Cave, which is not too long, but it has some good side passages to explore and some really good formations. We took four groups in two shifts. Mr. O. and Mr. H., both experienced spelunkers, guided one group each in both the morning and the afternoon.
